The reason for this is simple. When you first start collecting, you are starting from zero. So, there are plenty of current globes, and even reproductions of older ones that will get your collection going. Eventually you will save up for some of the more expensive ones like gemstone globes and those that light up. But after a while you have all the ones on the market that you want. What now?

Obviously, you need to start looking for ones that are no longer in production that can add to your collection. But, where do you find them? Here are a few options:

Garage Sales - I am sure you have heard the old cliché that one man's trash is another man's treasure. This is definitely the case with garage sales. While you will not strike proverbial gold at every sale, you well may be able to find older world globes that someone has decided they no longer want at a garage sale. Grab your local paper, get up early on the weekends and go hunting. Even if you strike out, look on the bright side - you got out and got a little fresh air.

Estate Sales - The next step up from garage sales are estate sales. These are where the entire contents of a home are being sold. This often happens after the person living in the home dies and the family does not know what to do with their belongings, so they sell them all. Often these are going to be older homes, with older decorations and that may well include older world globes that you can add to your collection

Antique Shops - Another place to look and make connections for your world globes is local antique stores. Look around in the store to see if there are any globes waiting to go home with you. If not, don't give up yet. You should talk to the shopkeeper and mention what you are looking for. They will either keep an eye out for you as they look for items they want to sell or they will be able to point you in the direction of someone who is more in tuned to your world globe collection.

Auctions - There are always antique auctions going on somewhere. Start locally and see if there are any businesses that hold antique auctions in your area. The great thing about an auction is that you can look over the sales list in advance and know if there is anything that gets your attention. Once you have exhausted your local auction options, look online. There are plenty of online auction houses like e-Bay that have a variety of old and collectible items, including world globes, up for grabs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
